Blauwvoet

The Blauwvoet is an oak sculpture of 3 meters and 900 kg from Fernand Vanderplancke. This was donated by the Flemish Association for aquatics in 1980 to the city of Nieuwpoort because of the development of the first and immediately the biggest Flemish marina on our coast.

This sculpture was named 'Blauwvoet' because this has always be linked to the emancipation of the Flemish people and the combative nature of these stresses, the slogan of Rodenbach mindful: 'Fly the Blauwvoet , storm at sea'. With this VVW wants to preserve a tradition that also exists in other ports, where the captain of a boat in greeting offers a cordial to those on board, both the departure and the return of the ship.

De terugkeer

The old statue was removed from its base in early 2016 and rot was found. Hereby VVW Nieuwpoort decided to let Fernand Vanderplancke make a new one. This festival is unveiled on september 3 by a spectacle on the water where the blauwvoet back many times can greet the sailors.
